The Statistics Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) visited the Statistics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Tuesday, 31st October 2023. The UNS delegation consisted of Dr. Irwan Susanto, Dr. Winita Sulandari, and Dr. Kiki Ferawati. This visit served as the initial step to strengthen the planned collaboration in the Tridharma of Higher Education, which encompasses education, research, and community service.
During the meeting, the UNAIR Statistics Study Program introduced the activities of two active research groups: Statistical Modeling for Economic and Social Sciences (SMESS) and Statistical Modeling in Life Science (SMiLeS). Both research groups focus on the application and development of statistical methods in multidisciplinary issues, ranging from socioeconomics to health and life. UNS also shared experiences in conducting research and developing community service programs, fostering a mutually complementary exchange of knowledge.
This collaboration is not only aimed at strengthening the quality of research and scientific publications, but also at encouraging direct contributions to society through data-driven community service activities. This effort aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) through increased academic capacity, and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals) through strengthening inter-university collaboration networks.
With the establishment of this collaborative space, both study programs are committed to following up on the results of the discussions and developing sustainable and impactful collaborations.
