On Thursday (11/05/2023), the Statistics Bachelor’s Program at Airlangga University held a guest lecture on the theme “Introduction to Reinforcement Learning.” Reinforcement learning is one approach in the field of artificial intelligence that focuses on teaching agents to take optimal actions in a given environment. This method is inspired by how humans and animals learn through interaction with their surroundings.
The guest lecture was conducted online via Zoom meeting. Participants included students from the Statistics Bachelor’s Program at Airlangga University and general participants from various other universities. The event began with the screening of a video profile of the Statistics Program, followed by opening remarks from MC Citra Imama, one of the Statistics Program students, and Elly Pusporani, S.Si., M.Stat., a lecturer in the Statistics Program.
The guest speaker for this event was Dr. Sornalakshmi Krishnan from the Department of Data Science and Business Systems, India. In her presentation, Dr. Sornalakshmi Krishnan explained that reinforcement learning involves several important elements: agents, environment, actions, and rewards.
At the end of this event, the moderator conveyed that it was an interesting activity and hoped that with this guest lecture, it could serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and providing practical insights, inspiration, collaboration, and useful knowledge updates.
