As a student who is involved with numbers, symbols and coding every day, participating in ANOVA is like getting fresh air in the midst of busy lectures. ANOVA is not only awaited by students who are tired of thesis and project topics, but also by lecturers who need refreshment in the midst of a busy teaching schedule. ANOVA, an abbreviation of “A Celebration of Anniversary”, is an annual event organized by the Statistics Student Association of Universitas Airlangga, especially in the field of KESMA (Student Welfare), as a celebration of the anniversary of the Statistics Study Program and HIMASTA UNAIR. The aim is to celebrate the anniversary of the Statistics and HIMASTA UNAIR study programs and strengthen relationships and excitement among the participants, consisting of UNAIR Statistics lecturers and active UNAIR Statistics students class 2020-2023.
This year, ANOVA’s theme is “AQUALUMOS: Adventure Under the Sea to Discover Unforgettable Bonds”. “Lumos” comes from a mantra used to create bright light. In this context, “AQUALUMOS” is a hope that this event will create strong ties among the statistics community and be the beginning of a new, proactive generation. ANOVA is considered an adventure for statistics students to get to know each other and form strong bonds. Like previous years, ANOVA lasted for 2 days, held at Villa Panderman View Batu on 27-28 April 2024. This event included social projects, talk shows with inspirational speakers, birthday celebrations, games and group prayers.
Even though preparations for the event took place in a short time, ANOVA 2024 is still interesting. There were a total of 95 participants, including 7 lecturers, 14 active students class of 2021, 8 class of 2022, and 66 class of 2023. The field coordinator, Hafidz, stated that all the committee members were enthusiastic and eager to contribute. The event ran smoothly, from the rehearsal to the main event which included cutting the birthday cake, reading secret messages, karaoke and giving awards.
The activity began with games while waiting for the participants to arrive, followed by karaoke on the way to the location. After that, participants were given material about public speaking delivered by Mrs. Dita Amelia who is one of the lecturers in the Statistics study program and Adnan Syawal who is a Statistics student class of 2021. Apart from that there were also appearances from Statistics students class of 2022 and 2023. The first day closed with Statistics birthday celebration, including karaoke and prayer together led by the Head of Statistics Study Program, Mr. Sediono. The second day started with challenging gymnastics and games. After that, participants are free to do the activities they want, such as swimming or enjoying the nature around the villa.
Participants’ responses to the ANOVA were very positive, with many stating that this event brought them closer to each other and provided freshness in the midst of busy lectures.
