UNAIR’s Department of Mathematics Strengthens International Ties with INTI International University, Malaysia

The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), continues to expand its global academic network. Two of its lecturers, Dita Amelia, S.Si., M.Si. and Elly Pusporani, S.Si., M.Stat., took part in a Staff Outbound program to INTI International University in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, from 19–25 June 2026.

The visit forms part of UNAIR’s broader internationalization strategy, aimed at improving the quality of education, research, and community service while supporting the university’s standing in the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) through international collaboration, joint publications, and academic mobility.

Program Highlights

During the visit, the two lecturers engaged in a series of activities, including:

• Participating in the 3rd Multidisciplinary Regional Conference in Science and Technology (MRCST) 2026, hosted by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, under the theme “Science and Technology for Optimized Resource Utilization.“
• Joining a campus tour and academic discussions at INTI International University to learn about institutional governance, learning facilities, and internationalization practices.
• Discussing curriculum alignment between UNAIR’s Statistics program and INTI’s Data Science program to explore student mobility opportunities such as student exchange, short courses, summer programs, and research attachments.
• Attending a workshop titled “Developing a Strong Research Proposal,” delivered by Dr. Lim Seong Pek.
• Discussing a collaboration roadmap and a draft Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between UNAIR and INTI International University, along with SDG-related discussions with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and an industry visit to the Beryl’s factory.

Outcomes and Impact

The program produced several concrete outcomes, including a shared roadmap for collaboration in education, research, and scientific publication, as well as identified opportunities for joint research, joint publications, guest lectureships, academic fellowships, and various student mobility schemes.

The activity also directly supports three Key Performance Indicators (IKU) set by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology: IKU 3 (Lecturers’ Off-Campus Activities), IKU 5 (International Recognition of Lecturers’ Work), and IKU 6 (Study Programs Partnering with World-Class Institutions).

Next Steps

Moving forward, FST UNAIR and INTI International University plan to finalize the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and roll out the collaborative programs discussed, including joint research, joint publications, guest lectureships, and student mobility initiatives, to further strengthen their long-term international partnership.
