UNAIR Holds Statistics Training for Teachers at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School in Trenggalek, Encouraging Learning Data Analysis Competencies

Trenggalek, 12nd June 2024 – Airlangga University (UNAIR), through its Community Service (Pengmas) program, held an activity titled “Improving Teacher Competence in Learning Outcome Data Analysis with Statistical Methods Using Microsoft Excel” at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School in Trenggalek. Thirty active teachers at the school participated in the training. The training aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity in processing and analyzing learning data practically, with the hope of supporting evidence-based decision-making in the school environment.

Two lecturers from the Undergraduate Statistics Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UNAIR, served as keynote speakers: Dr. Toha Saifudin, S.Si., M.Si., who presented on descriptive statistics, and Dr. Ardi Kurniawan, M.Si., who presented on hypothesis testing and analysis of variance. The material presented covered the use of statistical functions in Microsoft Excel, the Data Analysis Toolpak feature, data visualization, and inferential analysis techniques such as mean and standard deviation testing. This activity consisted of lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice, complemented by pre- and post-tests to measure learning effectiveness and questionnaires for participant feedback.

Beyond focusing on knowledge transfer, this Community Service activity also served as a means to strengthen partnerships between universities and elementary schools as part of their contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (quality education) and 9 (innovation and infrastructure). At the end of the event, the committee presented awards to the best participants and presented plaques to the schools. The smoothly running event concluded with a group photo session as a tangible demonstration of UNAIR’s commitment to supporting teacher capacity building in the regions through continuing education programs.
